Andrew Cates

Co-Founder, The Wine RayZyn Co.

Andrew Cates is the Co-Founder and VP of Operations of The Wine RayZyn Company, an innovative start-up that specially dries premium, sustainably harvested wine grapes. Andrew’s mission is to deliver healthy snack foods to consumers who are replacing traditional meals with robust snacking, while also supporting sustainability efforts through offering vineyards a way to maximize their grape yield.

Andrew resides and manages Segassia Vineyard on Mt. Veeder in Napa. He is fervent about his organic farming practices, caring for his vineyard, tending to his large garden, beekeeping, and raising chickens. Segassia wine grapes are used to make award-winning wines. In fact, Segassia consistently gets 95+ point rankings by Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, Robert Parker, and in blind California wine tastings. While Andrew is passionate about this aspect of the wine business, he is thrilled to introduce the power-packed dried wine grape to the masses. After studying the benefits of the wine grape’s seed, Andrew and his father worked hard to develop the patented way that makes the grape seed amazingly nutty and delicious. The drying method is natural, and it also enhances the flavor of the wine grape, toasts the seed, and concentrates all of the nutrients. The wine grapes are dried on the vine, which acts likes nature’s cork, locking in and preserving the flavor and nutrients. Andrew’s dedication to the creation of this new, crunchy superfood snack has been a labor of love.

The Wine RayZyn Company’s flagship products are CabernayZyns (dried Cabernet Sauvignon wine grapes), MerlayZyns (dried Merlot wine grapes) and ChardonayZyns (dried Chardonnay wine grapes. The company has also released a Dark Chocolate Covered CabernayZyn. RayZyns are available in sizes from 0.5oz to 25lbs bulk boxes and may be purchased at www.rayzyn.com as well as a wide variety of retailers.

Before co-founding The Wine RayZyn Company, Andrew worked in Finance. He spent for 4+ years as a Credit Trader for KKR Hedge Fund/Asset Management and also worked for 4+ years as a structured products trader on the CDO/CLO desk at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Andrew attended Rice University, where he earned a B.A. Economics, Business Management, Policy Studies and played varsity football.
