As Chief Marketing Officer at American Express, Elizabeth Rutledge is responsible for the stewardship, protection and innovation of one of the world’s most iconic brands. At its core, the American Express brand has always been about relationships rooted in trust, service and security. A 25+ year marketing veteran and change agent at American Express, Elizabeth is building on this heritage as the company evolves to meet the needs of how people live and work in today’s world.
Elizabeth oversees Global Advertising and Brand Management. Their role is to understand the marketplace and drive brand relevance globally to help the company deliver the world’s best customer experience every day.
Previously, Elizabeth was Executive Vice President, Card Products and Benefits, and had responsibility for US Charge, Co-Brand and Lending portfolios, as well as Membership Rewards. Prior to that, Elizabeth was Executive Vice President, Global Network Marketing and Information, where she delivered powerful marketing and insights to American Express merchants around the world. Prior to American Express, Elizabeth worked in advertising at NYNEX, now Verizon.
In 2013 Elizabeth was honored by Working Mother Magazine as one of the Working Mothers of the Year and in 2016 she was recognized by New York University’s Stern School of Business with the Stern Women in Business Distinguished Alumna Award. She currently serves as a mentor for members of American Express’ Women’s Interest Network and serves on the Boards of Directors for the YMCA of Greater New York and the Association of National Advertisers.
Elizabeth lives in Old Greenwich, CT and is a graduate of Princeton University and holds an MBA from New York University.
