Dr. Deepak Sekar brings years of experience, a curious mind, innovative spirit and more than 100 patents to his role as founder and CEO of Chowbotics. Sekar grew up in India reading Isaac Asimov’s science fiction novels about robots and building them in his spare time, so naturally when it was time to select an area of study, he chose technology. He holds a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Madras and a PhD from Georgia Tech, which he completed in 2007.
Sekar began his professional career at SanDisk and has gone on to serve as the Chief Scientist at MonolithIC 3D Inc. and Director at Rambus where he led engineering and marketing teams in addition to managing IP portfolios and building sales relationships. A dozen of his 100 patents are now used in every iPhone.
One day, while making food in his kitchen, Sekar thought he could make his food in a more convenient and fun way by building a robot that could eliminate repetitive tasks such as stirring and chopping, while allowing him to focus on creative things like developing new recipes. He went ahead and built this robot along with a high school classmate of his. That’s how the idea for Chowbotics was born. Soon, he created his first prototype, hired a small, tight-knit team of engineers, and begin testing Sally the Salad Robot.
Sekar is excited to share his pioneering technology with the world and help to revolutionize food preparation. Outside of work, Sekar enjoys trying Bay Area restaurants and watching new films, often finding his mind wandering back to Chowbotics and what’s next for the company, be it a new feature or whole new robot.
