Tami Kim is an assistant professor of marketing at the Darden School of Business, where she teaches First Year Marketing and a Second Year elective on digital marketing for the full-time MBA program. She holds an A.B. in Government from Harvard College and a Doctorate of Business Administration in Marketing from Harvard Business School. Her research focuses on the evolution of consumer-firm-as well as interpersonal-relationships in the digital age. Her work has been published in leading academic journals including Journal of Consumer Research and Management Science; she has also written op-eds for the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Xiaoyan Deng

Xiaoyan Deng received her Ph.D. in Marketing from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2009. She conducts experimental research in the area of consumer behavior. Specifically, her research investigates the interplays between sensation, perception, and cognition, with a special focus on the role of design in consumer judgment, decision, and behavior.

Dr. Deng’s research has appeared in top-tier marketing journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Consumer Psychology. Her research has been covered by national media outlets, including New York Times, PBS, Science Daily, etc. Based on her research performance, she was selected as one of the 2017 Marketing Science Institute (MSI) Young Scholars.

Dr. Deng currently serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing. In 2017 she was named a JCR Outstanding Reviewer. She has reviewed for other elite marketing journals as well, including the Journal of Consumer Psychology, the Journal of Marketing Research, and Management Science.

Rebecca Hains

Rebecca Hains is a children’s media culture expert. A professor of media and communication at Salem State University in Salem, Mass., she is the author of the books “The Princess Problem: Guiding our Girls through the Princess-Obsessed Years” and “Growing Up With Girl Power: Girlhood On Screen and in Everyday Life.” She co-edited the anthology “Princess Cultures: Mediating Girls’ Identities and Imaginations,” and is lead editor of “Cultural Studies of LEGO: More than Just Bricks,” to be released by Palgrave Macmillan next year.

Dr. Hains has spoken about her work at many national and international conferences and events, including the Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media in Los Angeles and the Prix Jeunesse International, a festival in Germany that promotes excellence in children’s television worldwide. She has also published in various scholarly anthologies and peer-reviewed journals, including Popular Communication, Popular Music and Society, Feminist Media Studies, and The International Journal of Girlhood Studies.

Dr. Hains has also contributed to publications such as The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, and The Boston Globe Magazine and has been interviewed as an expert commentator in a range of media including NPR’s On Point, BBC News, The New York Times, The Meredith Vieira Show, and documentary films.

Rebecca holds a Ph.D. in mass media and communication from Temple University, as well as a B.A. from Emmanuel College and an M.S. from Boston University.
