Daniel McCarthy is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business. His research specialty is the application of leading-edge statistical methodology to contemporary empirical marketing problems. His research interests include customer lifetime value, missing data problems, and the marketing/finance interface.

His research specialty is “customer-based corporate valuation,” a methodology for valuing companies from the “bottom up” by predicting what those companies’ customers will do in the future. His work has been featured in major media outlets such as the Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, FT, Fortune, Barron’s, Inc Magazine, the Economist, and CNBC. His research has been accepted and published in top-tier academic journals and has won numerous research awards.

In addition to his roles and responsibilities at Emory, Dan co-founded and was Chief Statistician for Zodiac, a predictive customer analytics SaaS firm. Nike acquired Zodiac in March 2018. Dan has since co-founded Theta Equity Partners to revolutionize how firms (e.g., private equity, venture capital, and operating companies directly) value companies through customer-based corporate valuation.

Yana Kakar is the Global Managing Partner of Dalberg Advisors, an impact-driven firm with offices in over 20 countries worldwide that provides strategy, investment, research, data analytics and design services to clients across the public, private and philanthropic sectors.

Yana specializes in sustainable, responsible and impact investing. She works with capital allocators, investors, and managers across asset classes to analyze markets, develop and diligence deal pipeline, design innovative financing instruments, structure funds and facilities, and conduct other transaction and post-transaction activities. Yana’s investment advisory maximizes for both financial and social return, with an emphasis on inclusion and empowerment. For instance, Yana collaborated with a leading global investment bank to create a facility that has now invested more than $1 billion in women entrepreneurs in emerging markets, she supported the President of a multilateral development finance institution in developing a $5B investment fund and strategy to stimulate youth employment and entrepreneurship, and she is currently working with a consortium of foundations to execute and evaluate the world’s first education development impact bond, targeting girls in hard to reach communities in India. Yana is also active in ecosystem building and market development efforts. Under her leadership and in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Canadian government, Dalberg designed and incubated Convergence, a non-profit organization and online platform that enables blended finance transactions towards the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, she is a member of the Global Impact Investing Network, serves on the Frontier Markets Council of the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association and is part of their ESG investing community.

In 2018, Yana was appointed by the President of the African Development Bank to the Presidential Youth Advisory Group. She is on the Board of Directors of Convergence and the Access Challenge, and is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Yana’s perspectives on global development and investment have been published in a number of media outlets including the Financial Times, Bloomberg, Forbes, The Huffington Post, DevEx and The Guardian. Yana holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania.

Royce Cohen

Vice President, Business Development & Analytics, LA Dodgers

Completing his ninth year in the sports industry, Royce leads the business strategy and analytics efforts for the Dodgers with duties that touch ticketing, sponsorship, concessions, merchandise, parking, finance, capex, marketing, and venture capital. He also spearheads business and fan development initiatives including the Dodger Pride Rewards loyalty program and Dodgers Training Academy.

Previously, Royce helped launch the ticketing analytics group at MLB and worked closely with the Commissioner’s Ticketing Review Committee and all 30 MLB Clubs on issues such as the secondary market, dynamic pricing, and digital ticketing.

Royce received his B.S. from The Wharton School in 2012. He is eager to get to SunTrust Park in Atlanta to once again claim he has seen a game in all 30 MLB ballparks.
