Jason Gardner

Founder, CEO, Marqeta

Jason is a serial entrepreneur with a deep love of technology. He grew up in New Jersey where he had numerous businesses that included making and selling tie-dyed T-shirts. After attending Arizona State University, where he was a constituent liaison for Senator John McCain, Jason made it to California where he began to pursue his passion for technology.

He held various roles at several of the Bay Area’s leading technology and consulting companies before founding Vertical Think, a technology project management company that worked with start-ups and large organizations to shorten time to market and increase return on investment (ROI) for web-related technology projects. In 2004, he co-founded and served as President and Director of PropertyBridge, which became the leading rent and lease-related payment and transaction integration platform for multifamily real estate. MoneyGram International (MGI) acquired PropertyBridge and Jason became a vice president and member of the executive team.

In 2010 Jason founded Marqeta as the world’s first fully documented, open API issuer processor platform, built from the ground up with no legacy infrastructure. Today, the Marqeta Platform has been designed and engineered using the best open-source technologies and modern hardware available. Marqeta delivers the most modern credit, debit and prepaid cards for many of the most well-known companies in the world.
