Kent Smetters

Kent Smetters is the Boettner Chair Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, faculty group member in Applied Mathematics and Computational Science at Penn, and Faculty Director of the Penn Wharton Budget Model. Previous positions include the Congressional Budget Office and the Kaiser Visiting Professor of Economics at Stanford Economics Department. In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury. He subsequently served on U.S. Congress’ bipartisan Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel on Dynamic Scoring. His research focuses on applied theory, optimal fiscal policy, personal finance and asset pricing. In 2008, he cofounded one the nation’s first “hybrid robo-advisory” firms, Veritat Advisors, that he sold to the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer. He is often cited in major media outlets. He received his PhD in Economics from Harvard University.
